To the eye
A dazzling and captivating colour, a deep gold with subtle chartreuse and emerald highlights. The brilliance is remarkable and the texture, very rich, forms slow tears down the sides of the glass.

Nose
Of unfathomable complexity and infinite aromatic richness. The bouquet opens with balsamic and herbaceous notes (peppermint, lemon balm, verbena, hyssop). Soon, warmer, honeyed nuances of beeswax, aniseed, saffron, candied citrus and sweet spices come together to create an unrivalled aromatic symphony.

Palate
The attack is velvety, almost creamy, enveloping the palate with great smoothness. The intensity of the 130 medicinal plants is expressed in a masterful balance between the strength of the alcohol, the sweetness of the elixir and the freshness of the botanicals. The finish is endlessly long, lingering on noble notes of gentian, white pepper, incense and angelica.

Pairing
An elixir of such rarity and nobility is, above all, a fine digestif to be savoured thoughtfully, to be enjoyed on its own at the end of a meal so that every nuance can be appreciated. For those who enjoy bold pairings, it will pair sumptuously with an intense dark chocolate dessert made from single-origin chocolate, a Sicilian pistachio macaron, or even a top-quality Havana cigar for cigar enthusiasts. Serve in a perfectly clean tulip glass, chilled to around 12–14°C, without ice.

Aging potential
Often referred to as the ‘elixir of immortality’, Chartreuse is one of the very few spirits that continues to evolve and improve whilst in the bottle. Stored upright in the darkness of a cool cellar, this Marseille 1921–2021 edition will stand the test of time, spanning decades or even centuries, developing its character and smoothness as the years go by.
