Discover Pernand-Vergelesses
Located in the northern part of the Burgundy Côte de Beaune, the Pernand-Vergelesses appellation is one of the region’s discreet gems. Nestled at the foot of the Corton hill, this wine village produces renowned red and white wines known for their balance, freshness, and their faithful reflection of the terroir. The appellation also includes several Premier Cru vineyards and shares with Aloxe-Corton and Ladoix-Serrigny part of the prestigious Grand Cru Corton-Charlemagne.
Terroir and Characteristics
The terroir of Pernand-Vergelesses consists of deep clay-limestone soils with a temperate climate favourable to slow and even ripening. The emblematic grape varieties are Pinot Noir for the red wines and Chardonnay for the whites, both perfectly expressing the richness and diversity of the Burgundy soils.
Wine Profile
The red wines feature a vibrant ruby color with an expressive nose of fresh red fruits like currant and raspberry, sometimes highlighted by floral, spicy, or subtly oaky notes. On the palate, they are naturally fresh with supple tannins and a harmonious structure. These wines can be enjoyed young but also develop greater complexity with aging.
The white wines, made from Chardonnay, are particularly remarkable for their taut, mineral profile and aromatic purity. Typical notes include citrus, white flowers, hazelnut, and sometimes a hint of honey with age. Their palate is straight, energetic, and persistent, with pronounced minerality reflecting the proximity to Grand Cru Corton-Charlemagne.
Food Pairings
Pernand-Vergelesses red wines pair excellently with roasted white meats, poultry, slow-cooked dishes, and aged cheeses such as Époisses and Comté. The whites, more tensioned, complement seafood, delicate fish, shellfish, and refined goat cheeses.
