Discover Rhône Valley Wines
The Rhône Valley vineyard is divided into two distinct areas: the Northern Rhône and the Southern Rhône. Stretching from Vienne to Avignon, this renowned wine region is home to prestigious appellations such as Côte-Rôtie, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Saint-Joseph, and Hermitage. This exceptional terroir offers a unique aromatic richness and distinctive wine styles representative of each sub-region.
Terroir and Characteristics
The Rhône Valley enjoys a Mediterranean climate in the south and a more continental climate in the north, with diverse soils ranging from rolled pebbles to granite and clay-limestone. The Northern Rhône is famous for its full-bodied red wines primarily from the Syrah grape, along with elegant whites made from Viognier, Marsanne, and Roussanne. In the Southern Rhône, blends dominate with grape varieties such as Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Syrah, producing round, warm, and complex wines.
Wine Profile
Rhône wines display a rich aromatic palette from spicy, fruity, and floral notes to flavors of game and leather depending on terroir. The reds generally have a robust structure with well-integrated tannins and notable aging potential. The whites often show fresh acidity with aromas of white flowers and citrus, as well as remarkable complexity with age.
Food Pairings
Rhône Valley wines pair beautifully with hearty Mediterranean dishes: roast leg of lamb, wild boar stew, Provençal daube, or a cheese platter featuring aged Pélardon and Saint-Marcellin.
