Discover Maison Kalder, biodynamic ciders and perries from Normandy
Maison Kalder is a renowned cider estate located in Normandy, led by Alexandre Sidorenko. The estate covers 11 hectares of orchards exclusively composed of high-stem trees, with 1,000 trees including 700 apple trees and 300 pear trees. Old and late varieties are carefully planted on an east-facing schist hillside at 200 meters altitude, giving its ciders a unique character and a true Norman terroir.
Terroir and Characteristics
The exceptional terroir of Kalder relies on schist soils, which bring subtle minerality to the apples and pears used. The biodynamic cultivation method is environmentally friendly, with no chemical inputs, natural fermentation without added yeasts or sulfur, and slow pressing to preserve aromas. The fermentations follow the natural lunar rhythms, and the ciders and perries are unfiltered, enhancing their authenticity.
Wine Profile
Maison Kalder's ciders and perries reveal great aromatic finesse and balanced structure. Among the cuvées, the Extra Brut captivates with fresh citrus notes and a fine effervescence. The Rue des 4 offers a more complex profile with delicate bubbles, while the Léna perry is an extra-brut made from local pears, perfect for aperitifs or fruit desserts. These refined beverages represent the richness of the Norman terroir.
Food Pairings
Kalder's ciders and perries pair perfectly with a variety of dishes. They enhance sauced white meats, fatty fish, and shellfish. They also beautifully accompany aged cheeses like Camembert or Livarot, as well as fruit-based desserts, highlighting their versatility and finesse.
