Discover Beaune Wines

The Beaune appellation is one of the most iconic in the Côte de Beaune region of Burgundy. Known historically as the heart of wine trade due to the famous Hospices de Beaune, it covers a vast terroir of over 400 hectares, almost exclusively dedicated to red wines made from the Pinot Noir grape, although some parcels also produce exceptional white wines from Chardonnay.

Terroir and Characteristics

The Beaune terroir benefits from a temperate climate perfect for growing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, with clay-limestone soils and a rich limestone subsoil. It comprises numerous climats, including 42 renowned Premier Crus like Clos des Mouches, Les Grèves, and Les Bressandes, each imparting unique expression and notable aging potential to the wines.

Wine Profile

Beaune red wines are known for their elegance and finesse, boasting a bright ruby color and complex aromas of ripe red fruits (cherry, raspberry, strawberry), often accompanied by floral, spicy notes, and sometimes hints of undergrowth or licorice with age. On the palate, they show softness, balanced structure, and silky tannins allowing harmoniously aging over several years.

The scarce Beaune white wines made from Chardonnay are generous and mineral, revealing aromas of white flowers, yellow fruits, hazelnut, and fresh butter, with a broad texture and a vibrant finish.

Food Pairings

Beaune red wines pair perfectly with traditional Burgundian cuisine, roasted meats, game birds, slow-cooked dishes, and aged cheeses such as Époisses or aged Comté. The white wines enhance dishes like sauced fish, creamy poultry, and shellfish.
