Discover Côte de Brouilly
The Côte de Brouilly appellation is one of the ten distinguished crus of the Beaujolais region, located on the slopes of Mont Brouilly. Less well-known than its neighbor Brouilly, this appellation is defined by its unique volcanic terroir and blue stone soils (diorite), offering the Gamay grape an exceptional expression ground.
Terroir and Characteristics
The Côte de Brouilly terroir benefits from elevation and a southeast-facing slope that allows grapes to mature slowly and evenly. This microclimate combined with controlled yields produces elegant and expressive wines. The rolled pebbles soil, comprised of diorite, imparts a distinct minerality that structures the wines.
Wine Profile
Côte de Brouilly red wines are made exclusively from the Gamay noir à jus blanc grape. They feature a deep, intense color and refined aromas of red and black fruits (cherry, blackberry, raspberry) often accompanied by floral, mineral, and lightly spicy notes. On the palate, they offer a beautiful structure, natural freshness, and fine tannins, making them approachable when young while also having great aging potential.
Food Pairings
These wines pair perfectly with traditional dishes. Ideal accompaniments include white meats, roasted poultry, fine charcuterie, and soft cheeses such as Époisses or Coulommiers.
