To the eye
A deep ruby colour, with great brilliance and purplish highlights that reflect the natural concentration of the 2022 vintage.

Nose
A bouquet of fascinating complexity. It features notes of dark berries (blackberry, blueberry) interwoven with floral nuances of violet and peony, typical of whole-bunch fermentation. Once aerated, hints of delicate spices, liquorice and a smoky, mineral quality lend it an aristocratic depth.

Palate
The attack is clean and vigorous. On the palate, it offers impressive volume, underpinned by a tannic structure of exceptional finesse. This is a ‘complete’ wine, where the richness of the fruit is balanced by a briny freshness and a tension that lends the whole a sense of verticality. The texture is silky, almost powdery.

Pairing
A wine for special occasions. It pairs superbly with pigeon cooked ‘à la crapaudine’, venison fillet with juniper berries, or a slice of lightly seared Wagyu beef.

The 2022 vintage possesses a masterful balance that promises immense ageing potential. It will begin to reveal its full complexity from 2032 onwards and will continue to improve steadily until 2050–2060.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Does this Clos des Lambrays suit my taste for light, delicate reds?

Not if lightness is your top priority: it is described as very full-bodied and powerful. Its elegance comes instead from combining this intensity with a supple texture and rounded tannins.

Is it suitable if I don’t like harsh tannins?

The tannins are described as noble and rounded, which is a reassuring sign. However, the wine retains a powerful, even rugged character, so roundness does not mean a lack of structure.

What should I pay attention to when assessing its balance during a tasting?

Beyond the blackberry and blueberry aromas, consider how its power relates to its suppleness on the palate. The expression “an iron fist in a velvet glove” is an apt invitation to look for this assertive structure beneath a rounded texture.

Is the Clos’s large size enough to explain the wine’s style?

The description highlights its very large area classified as Grand Cru in the Côte de Nuits, but does not link this characteristic to any specific effect in the glass. When choosing, details about its power, elegance, and rounded tannins are therefore more useful than the size of the Clos alone.

What tasting theme would this wine fit into?

A tasting devoted to the different expressions of power in red wines would be a good fit. This Clos des Lambrays would provide an opportunity to explore how a very full-bodied wine can also show suppleness and elegance.
