This emblematic estate was created by Lalou Bize-Leroy in 1988. Wines from the 4.80 hectares of vines are cultivated biodynamically. Lalou Bize-Leroy, who also heads Domaine Leroy in Meursault, produces Chardonnays cited as the best in the world, and the prices are commensurate with this success. She is the daughter of Henri Leroy, founder of the Maison de négoce Leroy, who acquired half of the DRC (Domaine de la Romanée Conti) in 1942. In 1974, she succeeded her father and became co-manager of DRC with her cousin Aubert de Villaine. She had to step down in 1992, but still owned 25% of the shares. While building up Domaine Leroy, she acquired a farm in Auxey-Duresses, which became Domaine d'Auvenay.

About

The La Macabrée parcel, with its 60 to 70-year-old vines, is located on the southern slope of Auxey-Duresses. Its soil, characterized by shallow limestone and the presence of iron oxide giving it a red hue, gives the wines a remarkably original character, at once marked by chalky notes yet deep, fat and balanced.
