Discover Marsannay

The Marsannay appellation, located at the northern tip of the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy, is renowned for its uniqueness and diversity. Marsannay is the only Burgundy appellation producing red wines, white wines, and rosés under the same designation, offering a wide range of flavors and styles.

Terroir and Characteristics

The Marsannay terroir is distinguished by its clay-limestone soils and favorable exposure, which give the wines a unique aromatic complexity. The region’s temperate climate with seasonal variations allows ideal ripening of Pinot Noir grapes for reds and rosés, as well as Chardonnay for whites.

Wine Profile

Marsannay red wines, made from Pinot Noir, are known for their aromatic finesse, featuring red fruit notes like raspberry and cherry, with occasional spicy and floral hints. They show an elegant structure and silky tannins, balancing freshness and depth. The white wines, primarily from Chardonnay, display lively acidity and the typical minerality of Burgundy terroirs, with aromas of white fruits, flowers, and sometimes buttery and toasty notes when oak-aged. Their palate is balanced, fresh, and persistent. The rosés, mostly produced from Pinot Noir, stand out for their freshness, expressive fruitiness, and smooth texture, perfect for aperitifs or summer dishes.

Food Pairings

Marsannay wines pair beautifully with a wide range of dishes: an Époisses AOP complements elegant reds, aged Comté cheese enhances fresh whites, while the rosés match well with a Niçoise salad or grilled summer fare. These wines are enjoyable both young and after some cellar aging.
