To the eye
A deep, vibrant and luminous golden colour, typical of fully ripe Marsanne.

Nose
With a captivating and penetrating complexity. It opens with intense aromas of white fruits (quince, peach), apricot and acacia blossom, enhanced by developed notes of beeswax, honey, fresh almond and a fascinating hint of ginger. The mineral character (crushed stone) is striking.

Palate
The attack is opulent and masterful. The wine coats the palate with a rich, thick, almost oily texture, but this opulence is immediately tempered by the tension and sharp acidity of the 2010 vintage. The finish, endless and briny, lingers on noble notes of toasted brioche and nuts.

Pairing
This masterpiece is the perfect accompaniment to the finest cuisine. It will bring out the best in pan-fried veal sweetbreads with ginger, Breton lobster roasted in salted butter, Bresse poultry in a morel cream sauce, or a sumptuous white truffle risotto. We recommend serving it at cellar temperature, between 12°C and 13°C, after allowing it to breathe slowly in a decanter.

Aging potential
A staggering ageing potential. Whilst it is already beginning today (at over 15 years old) to reveal its fabulous tertiary aromas of honey and dried fruit, this legendary 2010 vintage possesses the balance and structure to age superbly in the cellar until 2045–2050 without any difficulty.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How long can this 2010 white Hermitage be expected to age?

The description attributes several decades of aging potential to it, supported by its considerable concentration and particularly pronounced acidity. However, it does not specify a drinking window or peak maturity date, so it is impossible to say whether it should be opened now or saved for a particular year.

Is this wine right for someone looking for a light, subtle white?

No: its stated profile is full-bodied, concentrated, and opulent. Its high acidity adds tension, but does not make it a light white; it is better suited to someone who enjoys substantial whites.

What creates the balance between richness and tension in this cuvée?

The old vines of Les Rocoules bring body and opulence, while L’Ermite contributes mineral tension. Along with Péléat and Maison Blanche, these terroirs make up a blend whose appeal lies precisely in bringing together complementary expressions.

Why might the 2010 vintage appeal to someone who enjoys highly acidic whites?

The vintage combines phenomenal concentration with acidity described as piercing, rather than relying solely on richness. The reported conditions—plenty of sunshine and cool nights—shed light on this combination of power and freshness.

What tasting theme would help you appreciate this white Hermitage?

A tasting focused on great blended white wines would be fitting: this cuvée brings together around 80% Marsanne and some Roussanne, as well as several complementary terroirs. It offers an opportunity to explore the wine’s composition, balancing breadth, concentration, and mineral tension.
