To the eye
A dark, deep and almost opaque colour, adorned with brilliant garnet highlights, reflecting the incredible concentration of this vintage.

Nose
Powerful, dense and elegant. The initial nose releases generous aromas of jammy black fruits (wild blackberry, crème de cassis, roasted fig). As it opens up, the bouquet reveals superb complexity with notes of garrigue, thyme, roasted cocoa, cigar box and black pepper.

Palate
The attack is broad, rounded and full-bodied. The mid-palate impresses with its breadth, supported by ripe, dense tannins that nevertheless retain the velvety mouthfeel so characteristic of Clos du Caillou. The finish, endless and savoury, leaves a spicy, delicately liquorice-like aftertaste.

Pairing
A wine with such a full-bodied character calls for rich and flavourful cuisine. It will be the ideal accompaniment to hare à la royale, a Provençal stew simmered for hours, a tournedos Rossini or a thick cut of venison with grand veneur sauce. As for cheeses, pair it with a mature Gouda or mild blue-veined cheeses (such as Fourme d’Ambert). Decanting for 2 to 3 hours is strongly recommended before serving at 16°C.

Aging potential
The 2017 vintage, combined with the protective generosity of the Magnum bottle, makes this a genuine wine with exceptional ageing potential. Whilst its aromatic intensity is already captivating today after aeration, this giant will develop further depth and tertiary complexity over the next 15 to 20 years.
