To the eye
The wine has a beautiful, deep ruby colour with purplish highlights; it is bright and intense, promising a concentrated and elegant wine.
Nose
The nose is complex and refined, revealing aromas of black cherry, morello cherry, blackberry and blackcurrant, complemented by notes of violet, peony, black pepper, liquorice, forest floor and a delicate smoky hint.
Palate
On the palate, it is full-bodied, precise and perfectly balanced. The tannins are fine and tight, underpinned by a lovely freshness that lends it great elegance. Flavours of black fruit, sweet spices and damp stone linger on a long, mineral and persistent finish, characteristic of the finest Premiers Crus from Nuits-Saint-Georges.
Pairing
This 2020 Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru Les Chaignots is the perfect accompaniment to a fillet of beef, a roast rack of lamb, a duck breast or game birds. It also pairs well with Bresse poultry served with mushrooms, a porcini mushroom risotto, or mature cheeses such as Époisses, Langres or aged Comté. To fully appreciate the finesse of this Burgundy Premier Cru, we recommend serving it at between 16 and 17 °C after allowing it to breathe in a decanter for an hour when enjoyed whilst still young.
Aging potential
Produced from an excellent vintage, this 2020 Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru Les Chaignots has excellent ageing potential and will continue to develop for 15 to 20 years, or even longer depending on the producer and storage conditions. It will gradually develop aromas of truffle, leather, forest floor and delicate spices.
